FORMER Warriors defender, Costa Nhamoinesu has completed a move to Indian Super League side, Kerala Blasters as a free agent from Sparta Prague of Czech Republic.

Costa Nhamoinesu has broken new ground by becoming the first Zimbabwean to join the Indian Super League after signing a contract with Kerala Blasters for the upcoming season.

The 34-year-old joins the Blasters as a free agent from Czech’s Sparta Prague after a successful seven-year spell, confirms the club on twitter saying, “We have a new Warrior in town! @costyy26 is now #YennumYellow #SwagathamCosta.”

Speaking soon after his transfer, Nhamoinesu said he was delighted with the move, pointing out that he likes the kind of football played and the vibrancy of the fan-base in India.

“Kerala Blasters have a fantastic plan for the season. I’m intrigued and fascinated to meet my new teammates, learn new cultures, and do my best to help the club achieve its goals. I’m also very impressed by the vibe with the fans………I strongly believe that a club with such a vibrant, strong, energetic, and passionate fan base deserves great performances on the pitch! I would like to thank the management for believing in me and my agent for familiarising me with the culture around the club. I’m looking forward to learning more about Kerala and the club. One love, Yellow Army!” he said.

During his seven year spell in Czech, the former Warriors central defender made over 200 appearances and at some point captained Sparta Prague during the club’s Europa League and UEFA Champions League campaigns over the years, also scoring nine goals.

The coming of Nhamoinesu is expected to bolster the Kerala Blasters’ defence since the team lacks options in central defence following the transfer of Sandesh Jhingan to ATK Mohun Bagan.

Given his wealth of experience, his abilities in the air and physical strength, the Zimbabwean is set to lead from the back and assist young defenders to grow in their careers.
