Construction of Makanani Hospital in Chiredzi commences

THE Government is making strides to fulfil its promise in terms of health delivery with the people of Chiredzi district set to benefit from the construction of Makanani Rural hospital in Gezani area.
In an interview with the ZBC News, the local contractor, Odzi Construction confirmed that construction of Makanani hospital has commenced, with the laying of bricks for the foundation of the outpatient department block now complete.
All things being constant, the first phase of the project which entails the construction of the outpatient department block and essential ancillary structures is expected to be complete in four months.
“ We are constructing the outpatients’ department block, but in addition to that, ancillary structures such as staff cottages and ablution facilities will also be constructed,” said Sydney Chinyerere, Odzi Construction- Supervisor.
Residents say upon completion, Makanani Rural Hospital will go a long way in addressing the challenges they are facing in accessing primary health care facilities.
Makanani Rural Hospital project is the brainchild of Vice President, Retired General Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga while he was still Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
In 2017, President Mnangagwa led the groundbreaking ceremony for the project which is now underway.
So far the government has installed two solar-powered boreholes at the hospital site.
Upon completion, Makanani hospital will be the second referral health facility in Chiredzi district.
