THE Constitutional Amendment Bill Number Two has sailed through Senate after getting the required two thirds majority.
The bill sailed through the upper house after sixty five senators voted in favour of the bill while only 10 voted against it.
“65 senators voted in favour of the bill against 10 who have voted against the bill. I therefore declare that the final votes of the constitutional amendments bill number two to have been done according to section 328 of the constitution,” said Mike Nyambuya, Deputy President of the Senate.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi welcomed the development as a step in the right direction.
“This is a good development because we are going to push government’s devolution agenda,” he said.
The Bill seeks to extend the women’s quota, remove a clause on running mates, extend tenure of medically fit judges beyond 70 years and give impetus to the devolution agenda.
