Companies urged to consider partnerships

THE need for companies to consider partnerships to scale up the economic empowerment drive and improve environmental sustainability measures in the face of climate change has been cited as critical in achieving Vision 2030.

The role played by the private sector in advancing national development by increasing support towards devolution was at the centre of deliberations at the Responsible Business and Corporate Social Responsibility Awards held in Mutare this Friday.

This year’s winners for the South-East region drawn from Masvingo and Manicaland provinces are convinced that more support programmes will have a positive impact in the face of climate change and vulnerability.

Director of Advancement and Public Affairs at Africa University Stephen Chikozho spoke on the importance of partnerships in strengthening community interventions.

“It is important for corporates to pull their resources together to have a greater impact in communities. There is also a need to involve communities in decision-making on CSR programmes,” he said.

For the CSR Network of Zimbabwe, the private sector has special reasonability in advancing the national development agenda that will ultimately promote business growth.

“The 2030 agenda and the attainment of the sustainable development goals remain the most compelling universal road map for overcoming provincial and national challenges. Indeed, one actor cannot achieve Vision 2030 alone.

“Your critical role in making this a reality cannot be overemphasised. Ultimately if a significant economic or social group is left behind, our development is not sustainable.

“Only working through partnerships, we will be able to deliver a more ambitious response to the 21st-century challenges,” said Willard Razawo, CSR Network of Zimbabwe’s executive director.

The event was also attended by Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokhuthula Matsikenyeri.

This year’s CSR awards are a celebration of sustainability excellence towards achieving vision 2030 under the theme, “The role of responsible business in advancing the devolution agenda”.
