Colonel Panganai Kahuni declared Liberation War Hero

The late Colonel Panganai Kahuni who passed on on the 11th of July 2021 in Gweru has been declared a Liberation War Hero and will be buried at the Midlands Provincial Heroes Acre on the 14th of this month.

He was 61.

The late Colonel Kahuni joined the liberation struggle in Mozambique in 1976.

While in Mozambique,he briefly stayed at Doeroi before he was moved to Chimoio for initial military training.

After training he was was deployed to the front where he was part of a group that launched a successful attack on Ruda Camp.

He was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army as a Private in 25 March 1980. He was then selected to undergo Cadet training at the Zimbabwe Military Academy in 1981 .

Upon completion he was commissioned as a second Lieutenant and he received the Commander Zimbabwe National Army Award for the best academic student.

He is survived by wife Violet and five children.
