“Claims of army brutality in Gokwe-Nembudziya poisonous” – Wadyajena

Gokwe-Nembudziya Member of Parliament, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena, has distanced his constituency from what he termed “mischievous and poisonous comments” made by Senator Maybe Mbowa, alleging “fictional military brutality in the constituency.

Wadyajena said the claims are a sinister plot by Ms Mbowa to ruin the image of the government and that of President Mnangagwa in order to prop up the UK’s sanctions programme.

“It’s not surprising that her audio was first published by UK based online sites and well known Government critics before even being shared locally, a move calculated to bolster the UK’s defense on its imposition of sanctions on the aforementioned members of the Security Services on the basis of ‘human rights violations’,” he said.

He added, “These very damaging lies cannot and should not be ignored because of their broader implications locally and globally.”

He also said he fully supported the enforcement of lockdown regulations and continues to encourage his constituents to behave in responsible ways to avoid and limit the spread of coronavirus.

In a related report, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces dispelled rumours of army brutality in the Midlands province following claims to the effect that soldiers were harassing residents in search of burglars who had broken into Minister July Moyo’s homestead.
