VICE President, Retired General, Constantino Chiwenga has urged the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and other law enforcement agencies to ensure the environment is kept clean.
In a speech read on his behalf by Minister of State in his office, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu at this month’s clean-up campaign at Mahusekwa Growth Point in Mashonaland East province, Vice President Chiwenga called upon the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and law enforcement agents to ensure people comply with environmental regulations.
“We want our people to have a culture of cleanliness so we want EMA and other law enforcement agents to arrest anyone violating environmental regulations,” she read.
Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Appolonia Munzverengwi said the province has embraced the culture of cleanliness.
‘As a province, we have embraced the culture of cleanliness which has now cascaded to household level,” she said.
At least 7 064 clean-up exercises have been held in the province since the program started in December 2018, with an estimated 4 810 cubic meters of waste having been removed from undesignated places.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year declared the first Friday of each calendar month as the National Environment Cleaning Day when all citizens are supposed to clean their surroundings between 8 AM and 10 AM.
