Chitungwiza e-passport centre brings convenience

The decentralisation of e-passport issuance services has turned out to be a major convenience boost with Chitungwiza passport office one of the most efficient centres.

The Chitungwiza office was opened as government sought to decongest the Harare Passport Office and bring services closer to the people.

The office opened its doors on the 10th of May this year and two months down the line, the facility has already brought glad tidings due to the seamless process of acquiring the travelling document.

“We are very excited and I didn’t believe that one day I would own a passport. The process was so fast because I stay in South Africa, so I am very excited about this,” a beneficiary said.

Another noted, “I want to thank our government for coming up with such a good job for opening the passport office here. I was served without any problems and those guys are so efficient.”

ZBC News has it on good authority that the facility is also catering for those referred from Makombe Civil Registry in Harare.

“Today I came here to submit my papers and everything went well. It’s less than two hours, but I am now going home. This will allow us to do other things rather than what we used to do in the past. It was so difficult,” an applicant said.

Even the elderly have been impressed by the efficiency.

“I came here this morning, but a little bit late, so they told me to come tomorrow, but they assured me that they will serve me first because of my age. So, tomorrow I will be here so that I will be assisted without any problems.”

Besides the e-passport centre in Chitungwiza, the dormitory town also benefited from government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation programme through the reconstruction of Seke road.
