A Chinhoyi family last night lost US$60 thousand and several mobile phones after being attacked by armed robbers.
According to police, the family was attacked by eight pistol-wielding men with masks and woolen hats, who made off with the loot.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the heist, adding the robbers drove away in the family’s Isuzu KB D-tech which had 25 bags of fertiliser.
The vehicle was recovered some eight kilometres from Chinhoyi along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu highway.
“It is confirmed that a business family from Mzari was attacked by eight men who scaled over the security wall after which they made off with US$60 thousand and several phones.
“The robbers then drove off in the family’svehicle, which was however recovered at Golden Kopje turn off where it was dumped. We urge business people not to keep large sums of money at home and also to scale up their security at home. It appears the robbers had information,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
Recently, some six suspected robbers made off with US$2,5 million in another robbery case that occurred along Lomagundi Road.
