A mine owner from Shamrock in Gweru has appeared in court facing charges of attempted murder after shooting two of his workers in a wage-related dispute.
It is alleged that on the 21st of this month, Zhang Zuelin (41), shot and injured Wendy Chikwaira (31) and Kenneth Tachiona (39) during the dispute.
It is the state’s case that the accused clashed with his workers after they refused to be paid in Zimbabwean dollars.
The court was told that the accused listed the names of the front-runners in the protest and vowed to terminate their contracts.
Chikwaira and Tachiona who were on the list were advised of the development and confronted the Mine owner before a scuffled ensued.
The accused withdrew a 9 mm pistol and shot the two who were immediately taken to Midlands private hospital for treatment.
Zuelin who could not find an interpreter in time for the trial was remanded in Custody to the 7th of next month for the continuation of trial and advised to apply for bail at High Court.
