Government in collaboration with several partners has made tremendous progress in restoring infrastructure which was destroyed by Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani District.
To assess work done over the past two years, Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga visited Kopa Business Centre on Friday where he was appraised of the resurfacing of the 23km Kopa-Jopa road.
“These are ongoing visits that I will periodically embark on to monitor progress on the various government projects being implemented across the country. As government, we have put particular emphasis on developing the Chimanimani and Chipinge districts following the devastating impacts of cyclone which wreaked havoc in 2019,” he said.
“I am delighted to be part of the second dispensation led by President Mugabe which is people-centric. As we witness some of these developments. It is gratifying to note that road restoration works within Chimanimani district which include the Wengezi-Chimanimani road, Charter-Machongwe-Kopa road, Kurwaisimba-Muchadziya road, Kopa-Mutsvangwa road have been completed save for the Kopa-Jopa and Kopa-Vimba roads which are still under construction.”
Chimanimani East legislator, Honourable Joshua Sacco praised government for the work being done in the area.
He said, “When the president came here and we requested a tarred road many people laughed saying it’s impossible, but well here we are today we now have a road, thanks to the President and his administration.”
The Jopa-Kopa road is the major route that links Chipinge and Chimanimani districts where horticulture is the main source of livelihood.
