The Zimbabwe National Cricket Team, the Chevrons, have intensified preparations for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka set for later this month.
The Chevrons will kick off their New Year schedule with a tour to Sri Lanka where Zimbabwe will play three one-day international matches that are part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.
All three games will be day-night matches scheduled for the 16th, 18th and 21st of this month at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
The Super League is the main qualification route for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to be staged in India.
Zimbabwe have won only two of their nine Super League matches to date, while they also shared spoils in one of the games which was rained off and thus sit at the bottom of the 13-team log.
The current preparations have seen the team being divided into two select sides playing one day matches at Harare Sports Club.
This Wednesday, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, with a fine innings of 78, followed up good bowling from his Southerns team-mates as they recorded a fine victory in the second one-day match against Northerns at Harare Sports Club, an excellent fightback after their heavy defeat in the first clash.
Meanwhile, Lady Chevrons captain Mary Anne Musonda has been signed up for the FairBreak Invitational tournament set for Hong Kong in May.
Elsewhere, the Zimbabwe Under 19 squad that is in the West Indies for the World Cup will play two warm up matches before the tournament gets underway.
Zimbabwe are in Group C alongside Afghanistan, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea.
They will open their campaign against Afghanistan at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex in Trinidad and Tobago on the 16th of this month.
