ZIMBABWE senior cricket team coach Lalchand Rajput says they are looking at grooming vibrant youngsters as the Chevrons eye 2021 and 2023 World Cup qualification.
Rajput says the introduction of junior players into the main fold is a step in the right direction.
“We are looking at the T20 World Cup in 2021 as well as the World Cup in 2023, so we have to give the young players more time so that they get the exposure. We do not want a situation where we don’t have continuity after the senior players retire” he said.
The significance of having a large pool of players is vital to Zimbabwean cricket, hence the revival of the sport in the country hinges on how much emphasis is placed on development at the grassroots level.
Zimbabwe Cricket has since embarked on a drive to develop the sport from the grassroots level through the introduction of franchise leagues for both boys and girls.
