Chevrons fall to Ireland

IRELAND beat Zimbabwe’s Chevrons by 7 wickets in a T20 match played at the Clontarf Cricket Club grounds in Dublin this afternoon. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat reaching 152 for the loss of 7 wickets but Ireland reached 153/3 with 9 balls to spare.
Milton Shumba and Ryan Burl’s quick-fire 88 was in vain as the hosts leveled the series at one-all with a seven wicket victory.
The two left handers combined for a half century partnership with 19 year old Milton Shumba hitting an impressive 46 not out leading the Chevrons to a good total of 152 for 5 on a slow pitch.
Shumba hit four fours and two sixes in his knock and was ably supported by Ryan Burl who ended the innings on 37 not out after hitting three fours and two sixes.
Openers Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani had given the team a brisk start but the senior batsman who came in the middle order failed to kick on before Burl and Shumba put on some respectability on the Zimbabwean innings.
In reply, Ireland got to the target with nine balls to spare, thanks to Kevin O’brien who hit a 60 to level the five match series at one-all with three games to go.
Zimbabwe won by 3 runs the first T20 match played on Friday.
