Chevrons face stern test

ZIMBABWE is ready to host the International Cricket Council- ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Bulawayo next month with the focus on making it to the finals set for Australia in October.

Zimbabwe will for the first time since 2016 participate in the T20 global qualifiers slated for the 11th to the 17th of next month.

The Chevrons, who are vying for the remaining two slots for the ICC men’s T20 World Cup finals in Australia, will host eight teams at Queens Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club.

The qualifiers come at the worst possible time for the Chevrons who have found the going tough in recent matches against minnows Namibia and perennial campaigners Afghanistan.

They are however hoping for better fortunes as new Coach and Former Captain Dave Houghton takes charge.

Zimbabwe is in Group A alongside United States, Singapore and Jersey, while Group B consists of Hong Kong, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.

The Top 2 teams advance to the semi-finals with the two finalists booking a ticket to Australia for the World Cup finals set for October.

Meanwhile, the Under 19 women’s cricket team is in camp ahead of the first ever ICC Women’s Under 19 World Cup scheduled for January next year.
