Chevrons face Bangladesh in must-win encounter

By Lawrence Trusida

The Zimbabwe national cricket team, the Chevrons, face Bangladesh in a must-win One Day International match at Harare Sports Club this Tuesday.

Ordinarily, after losing two encounters in a three match series, the last encounter will be a dead rubber, but this is not the case tomorrow as the Chevrons need the win to gain points on the international Cricket Council Super League log.

The young Chevrons side has shown promise, especially after losing the second ODI by three wickets in the final over in a match they could have won with a bit of luck.

Stand-in captain Brendan Taylor has been inform but a bit unfortunate especially with his controversial dismissal in the last encounter that has been trending worldwide.

Wesley Madhevere showed his class batting in the middle order and will be asked to do more of the same for Zimbabwe to win.

The opening batsmen have been giving the selectors problems, with Tinashe Kanhukamwe failing to justify his inclusion and it remains to be seen if he will be trusted to partner young Tadiwanashe Marumani who is starting to get to grips with international cricket.

The return of Sikander Raza from injury boosted the middle order but Zimbabwe still lacks a finisher, with Luke Jongwe entrusted to fill that role albeit without any success so far.

Although the bowling unit has been good getting wickets upfront, they have been failing to kill off matches and that has to change if they are to get the much needed win.

Bangladesh getting a whitewash in Zimbabwe will surely not go down well with the ZC board is now questioning the value of Coach Lalchand Rajput.

A win will guarantee Zimbabwe 10 points on the Super league table and for a team with nothing on the board that will be a huge solace.
