Chadonha gang nabbed

FOUR suspected fraudsters from Zvishavane are facing six counts of fraud after allegedly duping unsuspecting individuals of up to US$4 000 using a street prank.

The quartet, Lloyd Maringe (38), Chivenge Vengai (36), Brian Mutero (32) and Nyarai Moyo (33) appeared in court facing charges of fraud for duping their victims using the prank known in street lingo as “Chadonha”.

Prosecuting, Tumelo Hindoga told the court that from the 19th of November last year until the day of their arrest last week, the quartet used the hoax to dupe unsuspecting residents of Zvishavane before getting away with a total of US$4 000.

Meanwhile, in another court case, Andrew Dhewa, aged 22, will rue the day he assaulted Jophias Tafireyi of Machalaga area with a machete.

The court heard that the two had a misunderstanding at Machalaga Business Centre where they were drinking beer before Dhewa assaulted the complainant with a machete.

Dhewa was found guilty and sentenced to 11 months in prison.
