Zanu PF Matabeleland South Provincial Chairman, Cde Rabelani Choeni, who succumbed to Covid-19 related complications on the 16th of this month, has been buried at Malusingani in Beitbridge.
Cde Choeni’s burial was attended by relatives and senior politicians in the province, including Zanu PF Politburo Member Ambassador Aaron Mabhoyi and his wife Ruth who is the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage.
Family representative Ntuweleni Choeni spoke on the late politician’s love for his family.
Cde Choene was a dedicated man when it comes to family matters. We grew up together and he was a hard worker who rose through the ranks up to where he was.
Political leaders described the late Cde Choeni as a dedicated and courageous freedom fighter.
Today we are gathered here because one of our sons took the decision that he was not a scavenger of the soil it belongs to him he had to fight to liberate this country.
Cde Choeni joined the liberation struggle under ZIPRA in 1974 when he crossed the border into Zambia through Botswana.
After independence, he served in various political portfolios, including as Zanu PF Chairman for Matabeleland South Province, a position he held until the time of his death.
Cde Choene is survived by his wife Lydia and five grandchildren.
