Cameroon seek consolation in AFCON 3rd place play-off

HOSTS, Cameroon will be seeking consolation when they clash with, Burkina Faso in the AFCON 3rd place play off tonight.

Although disappointed after failing to make it to the final, Cameroon and Burkina Faso will have something to play for when the two West African nations clash in a 3rd and 4th place play off tonight.

Cameroon could not repeat the feat they have achieved five times, after they lost 3-1 on penalties to record African Champions, Egypt in the semi-final on Thursday and will have to try to at least finish third.

The Indomitable Lions were not sharp in front of goal against Egypt and after failing to score for the first time at the tournament they will have to sharpen their front line tonight.

Their over reliance on the front pair of captain Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi was exposed against Egypt and is something they have to rectify.

The duo has 11 goals between them, with Aboubakar topping the chats with six.

On the other hand, Burkina Faso will be hoping to match their 2017 exploits when they beat Ghana 1-nil to finish 3rd.

However, it will not be an easy task against a team they have only beaten once in their last 10 games, a 1-nil win in a friendly match three years ago.

In the last 10 games, Cameroon have won four times, with five games ending in draws.

However, much of the focus is on Sunday’s final featuring record holders Egypt and Senegal who are gunning to win the AFCON trophy for the first time.
