Calls to revamp domestic cricket after Zim’s dismal performance in Namibia

By ZBC Reporter

Zimbabwe Cricket Emerging side’s series loss to Namibia Eagles has exposed the decline of the country’s domestic league.

The Emerging side was thrashed three-nil in both the One day international matches and the T20s by Namibia Eagles, the country’s second side.

Seasoned international players, Chamu Chibhabha, Brian Chari, Richmond Mutumbami, Kevin Kasuza and Carl Mumba formed the core of Zimbabwe’s emerging with five Under-19 players part of the team.

Namibia, which used to be play in the Zimbabwe domestic league, now seems to have edged ahead.

We have certainly regressed as a country, the domestic league used to be one to envy, an Namibia itself used to come and okay here as a franchise an now it s sad that they defeat a team with internationals and franchise players, said Cricket Analyst Dean Du Plessis.

He also noted that the only way out of the mess is to go to back to best practice.

Zimbabwe Cricket used to bring in experienced coaches like Jason Gillespie, Allan Donald etc to coach in the league, and they would not only identify flows but also address it quickly and that is what we should do, because honestly we have so many coaches who are past their sale by date,he added.

Meanwhile, the senior national side, the Chevrons are now preparing for the clash with Ireland after concluding their mandatory quarantine ahead of a series which gets underway this Friday.
