AN elderly woman and her two grandchildren from Morning Side suburb in Bulawayo were burnt beyond recognition after their house caught fire yesterday.
The incident occurred at about 9 PM last night.
The victims are a 53-year old woman and her two grandchildren; a boy aged 9 and a girl aged 14.
The bodies of the deceased were taken for a post mortem this morning.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo Spokesperson, Abednico Ncube confirmed the tragedy and said investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.
“Police went to attend to the scene after a fire had been reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and investigations are still ongoing,” said the Bulawayo Police Spokesperson.
Neighbours who were among the first people to detect the fire said they heard an explosion that caused rattling of windows in their own houses at around 9 pm.
This prompted the neighbours to rush outside to check, only to see thick black smoke coming from the deceased’s rooftop and went close to investigate only to find that it was ablaze.
