AMBITIOUS southern region division one women football side Bulawayo Chiefs have set their sights on gaining promotion into the top flight despite testing the waters in their maiden season.

Having been on hold since 2019, Southern Region Division One women football returns this weekend, with ambitious Bulawayo Chiefs ladies hoping to go all the way in their debut season.

Chiefs have played a number of friendly matches and Coach Evans Neta is oozing with confidence.

“We have played a number of friendlies and what excites me is our scoring rate that can take us to the championship crown,” said Neta.

The Bulawayo-based outfit which is facing ZRP this weekend has roped in former Mighty Warriors defender Nobuhle Majika as an Assistant Player Coach.

“We were training without knowing when the league will return and now we are excited football action is now back,” said Majika.

Bulawayo Chiefs, who also have experienced goalkeeper Leona Bhunu in their ranks, have a psychological advantage over their opponents after running away 8-nil winners in their last encounter with ZRP.

This has also given their Captain Kimberly Maseko confidence that they will sail past their opponents.

“We are ready we have met them twice and we need to kick start our championship target with a win at home,” said Maseko.

In other fixtures, Bulawayo Queens host Ubuntu, while Entumbane entertain Street Set. Highlanders’ Royals welcome Black Boots, while Las Palmas hosts New Orleans with Lobengula City Queens facing Western Rangers.
