THE Bubi-Lupane Irrigation Scheme has transformed the lives of farmers who have been incorporated into the irrigation scheme under the Agricultural Rural Development Authority, ARDA’s revitalisation drive.
Breaking new ground literally and figuratively, is the story of the 90 beneficiaries of the Bubi-Lupane Irrigation Scheme.
Now harvesting their maize crop, the farmers are grateful for government’s irrigation revitalisation programme.
“We have earned huge dividends our lives have changed. I have paid my children’s fees and building a home. We will earn 500 thousand dollars dividend, I can’t believe this is happening in my life,” said
The man at the helm of this successful scheme is young ARDA CEO, Mr Tinotenda Mhiko who has been showered with praise by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his acumen in agriculture matters.
“We are happy and now beyond harvesting this maize crop, we are planting a huge hectarage of winter wheat. By May, 15 we will have finished,” said Mr Mhiko.
To government, an irrigation scheme like Bubi-Lupane is testimony that rural development through local resources is an important socio-economic pillar.
“This is rural development at its best. We are using our God given land to change the lives of the people for the better,” said Dr Anxious Masuka, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development.
Not only has the scheme created employment, but it also comes with huge financial rewards for the beneficiaries.
