The country’s biggest triathlon event, the Bonaqua Triathlon Africa Cup was launched in the capital this Tuesday, with Event Director, Rick Fulton confident of having more participants.
The Eastern Highlands will be a hive of activity next month with the 2020 edition of the Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU Triathlon Africa Cup set to be held on the 22nd of February.
The competition was officially launched in the capital this Tuesday with Event Director, Rick Fulton expressing hope, the competition will register at least a 25 percent increase in number of participants.
“We are glad the sponsors have once again come on board. I think we began preparing for this year’s edition in the aftermath of last year’s competition so it has been a lot of hard work. We strive to see the competition growing and improving hence we have set ourselves a target of at least a 25 percent increase in the number of participants,” said Fulton.
Coca-Coca has again partnered with the Zimbabwe Triathlon Union through its Bonaqua brand extending a union that has been in existence for 5 years.
Coca-Cola country manager Milidzane Ncube is pleased with the partnership whose aim is to develop sport in the country.
“We are proud of our continued role in the country’s biggest Triathlon event. It has always been our desire to use such partnerships to hone the talent that we have. We are proud of the fact that this event will help athletes acquire crucial points in their bid to secure Olympic qualification so it really is a big thing for us as a corporate,” Ncube said.
Zimbabwe will be represented in the elite Women event by debutant Laurelle Brown who is confident of holding her own.
This year’s Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU Triathlon Africa Cup is set to grow in stature with the Zimbabwe Triathlon Union having partnered with the Zimbabwe Aquatic Union which will provide athletes for the open water swim.
The initiative has thus transformed the competition into a multi-sports festival which will also include Aquathlon, the corporate challenge a baby elite field and as well as junior categories.
