Blood stocks adequate for holiday demand- NBSZ Southern Region

THE National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has paid tribute to blood donors who helped replenish stocks to sustain the government’s free blood regime this festive season.
Over the years, the festive season leaves the blood bank strained but this year National Blood Services of Zimbabwe- NBSZ southern region has expressed satisfaction with the current blood stocks which can meet the holiday demand. Speaking to ZBC News, NBSZ regional planning and recruitment officer Mr Sifundo Ngwenya thanked blood donors for honouring their pledges.
“Festive seasons usually give us a knock as many accidents and life-threatening incidents take place. This time around we have healthy stocks which can take us through the holidays. We want to encourage our donors to continue partnering us in this noble initiative, especially after the holidays we will need to replenish the depleted blood bank,” said Mr Ngwenya.
The Festive season usually sees the average monthly demand for blood in Bulawayo doubling from 1000 units to 2000.
The free blood regime introduced by the government in July 2018 brought relief to many who could not afford to procure the lifesaving liquid in times of need.
