ZIMBABWE has become the eighth country in Africa to partner with global social media giant Facebook to officially launch a feature that encourages people to donate blood amid the COVID 19 pandemic period.
The feature provides those between the ages of 15 and 65 with an option to sign up as blood donors on the platform which will then indexes them to the nearest blood centers that have an urgent need for a donation.
Announcing the development in a virtual meeting held this morning National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) spokesperson Ms Esther Masunda said the development will enhance blood donor mobilisation due to popularity of the platform amid this COVID 19 pandemic.
Masunda expressed optimism that the feature will be a major boost for blood donation especially among the hard to reach youth who dominantly use the social media platform for their interactions.
The platform which was officially launched in 2017 will see the country joining other countries in the continent including Senegal, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Niger and South Africa.
