A regional battle of Army sides is on cards in the inaugural COSAFA Women’s Champions League, after Zimbabwe’s Black Rhinos Queens were drawn in the same group with Green Buffaloes of Zambia.
The Zimbabwe Super League Champions were drawn in Group B alongside Zambia’s Green Buffaloes and Tura Magic of Namibia for the inaugural COSAFA Women’s Champions League which runs from 27th of August to the 4th of September.
Chipembere Ladies will take on fellow army side, Green Bufalloes in their first match on the 27th of next month in South Africa at a venue yet to be announced.
They will be back in action two days later for a date against Tura Magic.
Group A has four teams led by Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa who will battle it out against Lesotho Defence Forces, Eswatini Wanders and Double Action from Malawi.
The top two teams in Group A and B will proceed to the semi-finals.
The winner of the regional tournament will progress to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Black Rhinos Queens have already made their intentions clear after signing six experienced players in Concelia Madotsa, Purity Mugayi, Cynthia Shonga, Agnes Tumbare, Rudo Neshamba and Marjorie Nyaumwe.
However, their administrative acumen has not been matched on the pitch as they have not been able to train due to the suspension of sport in the country.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has since applied for a waiver from the Sports and Recreation Commission but the sport governing body indicated that reviews will be done once the situation in the county improves.
