Benjamin Lock wins Tunisia ITF crown

ANOTHER top drawer performance by Zimbabwe’s Davis Cup player, Benjamin Lock has won the Tunisia M15 Monastir Men Doubles crown alongside his partner Aziz Dougaz of Tunisia.
Zimbabwe’s top tennis player, Benjamin Lock and his Tunisian partner, Aziz Dougaz are the champions of the M15 Monastir Men Doubles Tournament which ended in Tunisia this Saturday.
It was a mouth-watering final at the hard outdoor surface where Lock and Dougaz showed composure and determination on the offensive to register a hard-fought but sweet 2-1 victory over Franco Agamenone of France and Poland’s Piotr Matuszewski.
The pair won 7-6 in the first set before their opponents made a dramatic comeback to level matters with a 6-3 scoreline.
Lock and Dougaz were forced to dig deep as their opponents were also coming hard on them and ultimately pulled a 11-9 victory which then sealed the final to earn them the coveted crown in the North African nation.
The pair had previously progressed to the final after beating Christian Langmo of USA and his Bulgaria partner Alexander Donski 2-0 in the semis played at the same hard outdoor surface this Friday.
Lock and Dougaz registered the impressive semi-final double sets victory of 6-4, 6-1 to reach the final of the tournament were they met Matuszewski and Agamenone.
The Zimbabwean and his partner who have been in a no nonsense mood throughout the doubles competition, claimed the scalp of Bahamas’ Justin Roberts and Evan Zhu of America in the round of 16 before another 3 sets victory over Romania’s Vladislav Melnic and Colin Sinclair of Northern Mariana Island in the quarter-finals.
The news have come as sweet music to Zimbabwe as the country’s flag has been flown high once again on the tennis front.
