Auditor General extends cooperation with Sweden two more years

THE SWEDISH National Audit Office has extended cooperation with the Office of the Auditor-General in Zimbabwe for an additional two years to strengthen public auditing in the country in line with international standards.
With the aim of promoting democratic development and enhancing parliament oversight, Sweden has further agreed with Zimbabwe to extend cooperation to improve transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed in Harare this Wednesday by Auditor General Mrs Midred Chiri and her Swedish counterpart Mrs Helen Lindberg.
“We consider our partner to be an actor working to improve the public sector and the life of citizens in Zimbabwe. The intention of the cooperation is to further develop management in the organisation, internal communication and implementation of performance auditing,” said Mrs Lindberg
“The cooperation has enabled my Office to achieve some of its goals at a rate that we could not have moved, had we done these interventions on our own. The Swedish National Audit Office has assisted my office in the areas of Management and Leadership, Value for money and had started to focus on communication when the previous MOU expired,” said Mrs Chiri.
The Auditor General’s report has featured prominently at the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, with companies and government officials being summoned to account for how taxpayers’ funds are spent.
