The public interviews of candidates nominated to fill in the vacant nine positions for judges of the High court commenced in Harare this Monday.
The first batch of the shortlisted candidates, including Catherine Mzawazi Bachi, Joseph Chiimbe and Estere Chivasa were interviewed this Monday.
Chief justice Luke Malaba is presiding over the panel of interviewers which includes other judicial commissioners.
The candidates range from regional magistrates and experienced lawyers with at least 10 years’ experience as legal practitioners as recommended by the constitution.
The successful nine candidates will be appointed as judges of the High Court.
The positions fell vacant after six judges were elevated to the Supreme Court.
Among the candidates being interviewed in the three-day public interviews is the Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi and Harare magistrate Ester Chivasa.
Although the public cannot physically bear witness to the interviews due to Covid-19, the proceedings are being beamed live on ZBC TV, among other platforms, to ensure compliance with the requirement to hold the proceedings in public.
The interviews will run up to this Wednesday.
