European Film Festival Zimbabwe kicks off

Story by Patience Nyagato

THE fourth edition of the European Film Festival Zimbabwe has kicked off, with various events lined up in Harare and Bulawayo, including a short film competition.

Aimed at creating a platform for cultural exchange while celebrating the country’s cultural diversity through filmmaking, this year’s edition of the festival kicked off with the Bioskop Zimbabwe Short Film Competition.

In a statement, the festival directors announced that entries for the competition will close on September 2, with winners set to be announced later.

The competition running under the banner ‘Crossing Borders’ allows artists to connect with film industry professionals at various events organised in Harare and Bulawayo.

Mbare Arts Space in Harare and Ster Kineko in Bulawayo will host the main events from the 20th to the 28th of October.

The platform has been a springboard for several filmmakers including Prosper Kunyetu who won the award more than once.

Cash prizes are on offer with Films that meet the cut set to be screened at the European Film Festival Zimbabwe.
