Armed robbers nabbed, several guns recovered

THREE suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a Highlands family and got away with cash and a car have appeared in court facing charges of armed robbery and possession of dangerous explosives.

The three, Moyden Nyambuya and Tinashe Jokonya both aged 38 and 40-year old Shanganani Ndlovu are alleged to have robbed a Highlands family of cash and property worth more than US$20 thousand.

It is the State’s case that on the 23rd of March the accused and three others who are still at large stormed into a house in Highlands and threatened to shoot the owner demanding cash.

The court heard that they opened the house safe and took US$5 thousand before getting away in the complainant’s Mercedes Benz.

The matter was reported to the police which led to the arrest of the co-accused who were found in possession of several guns, ammunition, explosives and other dangerous weapons.

They have been remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old George Takudzwa Marufu, a State security agent appeared in court facing charges of robbery.

It is alleged that the accused hired a taxi which was being driven by the complainant but before they reached the purported destination where the accused produced a machete threatening to kill the complainant.

It is the State’s case that the complainant surrendered the car, cash and other valuables before being dumped in a bushy area in Southerton.

The accused who was arrested after being tracked by the police has been remanded in custody.
