Five suspected armed robbers have appeared in court in connection with a spate of armed robberies committed in Harare.
Shadreck Kanjera aged 46, Petros Nziramasanga (45), Blessing Kanyenze Muvembi (41), Peace Muwati (32) and Tinaye Mazhambe (32) appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda facing charges of armed robbery.
The five are alleged to have committed a spate of armed robberies in Harare.
It is alleged that they used the same modus operandi to commit the offences where they would arm themselves with various weapons including bolt cutters and screw drivers before breaking into houses demanding cash and valuables from their victims.
The court heard that in some instances they would assault their victims before tying them up.
The gang allegedly stole cash and property valued at over US$90 000.
They were arrested after they were found in possession of some of the stolen property.
The gang has been remanded in custody to the 4th of April and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
