The Zimbabwe senior men cricket team, the Chevrons are set to leave for Dubai this Friday where they will face Afghanistan in two Tests and three T-20 encounters.
Zimbabwe Cricket selectors chose a youthful squad to face Afghanistan, with the first Test getting underway on the second of March before the T-20 encounters which will be played from the 17th.
With the team dominated by youngsters, former national team captain Elton Chigumbura believes it is an opportunity for the young players to impress.
” Yes we are going to miss BT (Brandon Taylor) and Slug (Ervine Craig) their experience and all but this is an opportunity for youngsters to impress. Tari (Tarisai Musakanda) and Wessy (Wesley Madhevere) need to stand up and be positive they have the talents.”
Cricket analyst Godwin Mamhiyo challenged the players to be positive.
“Sub-continent pitches can be tricky but the guys need to be positive, play each ball on merit and we can come out with something, Sean Williams needs to guide the youngsters.
Former captain Brendan Taylor, top order batsmen Craig Ervine, Chamu Chibhabha, PJ Moor, senior bowlers Tendai Chatara and Kyle Jarvis will miss the tour over health and fitness issues.
Captain Sean Williams, Sikander Raza Butt, Regis Chakabva and Donald Tiripano will provide Zimbabwe with the much-needed experience for the series.
