We publish below the statement by Acting President Kembo Mohadi, following the passing on of the fourth Vice-Chancellor of Africa University, Professor Munashe Furusa.
“The Acting President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon Kembo Dugish Campbell Mohadi sends heartfelt condolences to Dr. Zanele Furusa, the entire Furusa family, the academic fraternity, Africa University board, Staff and Students on the passing away of Professor Munashe Furusa.
“I learnt, with great shock and sadness of the untimely death of the fourth Vice Chancellor of Africa University, Professor Munashe Furusa. Prof Furusa joined Africa University in July 2014 after a long stint in academia in the United States of America where he served in various position, culminating as Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University- Dominguez Hills,.
“In Prof. Furusa, the nation, the entire education sector and particularly his colleagues in the academic fraternity have been robbed of an outstanding, hardworking University Administrator and Vice Chancellor. Africa University, a United Methodist Church-Related Institution, was the first private University in post-independence Zimbabwe. Africa University occupies a unique space in the education sector as it is pan-African and recruits staff and students from the whole of Africa. In this regard, the passing on of Prof Furusa is not only a loss to Zimbabwe but to the African continent and the United Methodist Church in Africa.
“MAY HIS SOUL REST IN ENTERNAL PEACE.“
