HARARE giants Dynamos F.C. suffered another stoppage-time heartbreak after veteran Herentals F.C. forward Ralph Kawondera struck at the death to rescue a point for the students in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Rufaro Stadium.
The result compounded Dynamos’ misery, with the Glamour Boys now winless in six Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League matches.
Like the “immortal” jellyfish that seemingly defies ageing, Kawondera continues to reinvent himself, delivering for Herentals in both defence and attack.
The 35-year-old once again proved decisive, scoring his seventh goal of the season in dramatic fashion to snatch a point from Dynamos and extend the Harare giants’ disappointing run.
A former Triangle United, FC Platinum, Dynamos and CAPS United player, Kawondera often starts in defence before moving into attack in the second half, an unconventional tactical adjustment that has paid dividends for the students.
Herentals’ resilience has lifted them to sixth place on 19 points, with Kawondera emerging as the club’s talisman through a series of crucial goals that have also propelled him into contention for the league’s Golden Boot award.
“I am using my experience. I have been around for quite a bit and I have played in defence and upfront as well, so I am making sure that whenever I am playing, I give my best for the team,” said Herentals captain Ralph Kawondera.
For Dynamos, the alarm bells continue to ring louder after another frustrating outing leaves them drifting further behind the leading pack.
