SOUTH KOREA has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Zimbabwe, signalling expanded cooperation across key development sectors.
The Asian country says it is ready to scale up practical initiatives aimed at boosting socio-economic development, with priority areas including agriculture, health, and education.
Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jaekyung Park, said Seoul remains committed to supporting Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
“We are placing priority on agriculture, health, and education sectors. We will continue with our friendly gesture to support Zimbabwe and strengthen our bilateral relations,” he said.
Development cooperation is also being driven through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, which is partnering with the International Organization for Migration to implement programmes supporting returning migrants and host communities.
IOM Chief of Mission Ms Diana Cartier said the initiative focuses on reintegration and livelihood support.
“We are supporting returning migrants… rebuilding community cohesion while providing livelihood support for both migrants and vulnerable host communities,” she said.
Locally, officials say the growing partnerships are already contributing to infrastructure development and service delivery improvements.
Harare Provincial Infrastructure Deputy Director, Engineer Hebert Parichi, said the country’s engagement and re-engagement policy is unlocking new development opportunities.
“Different projects are being facilitated through collaboration of Government and its partners… this aligns with our President’s mantra of being a friend to all and an enemy to none,” he said.
Zimbabwe and South Korea have maintained diplomatic relations since the 1990s, cooperating in sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure ties that both sides now appear keen to deepen further.
