A 69-YEAR-OLD Mvurwi man has been sentenced to 45 years behind bars for raping his 11-year-old niece.
Thomas George from Caesar Mine compound in Mvurwi will spend the next four and a half decades in prison after being convicted of six counts of rape.
Five years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during the period hence he will serve an effective 40 years.
Prosecutor Gossy Mudambo told the court that on the 19th of December last year, the convict repeatedly took advantage of the minor after she was left in his custody raping her on five separate occasions and threatening her with physical harm if she divulged the offence.
George was eventually caught red-handed by his step-son Ephraim Musokosera on the 21st of January this year.
Musokosera reported the matter to the police and medical tests proved that the minor had been raped which led to George’s arrest.
