47 gold panners nabbed for violating curfew

The lure of the precious stone has landed 47 men in trouble for violating curfew regulations in search of gold.

The 47 gold panners were sentenced to three months in prison for violating the dusk to dawn curfew during the national lockdown, with an option to pay a fine of ZWL$20 000 each for the crime.

The court heard that on the 26th of January around midnight, police officers who were on patrol near Hwendedzo Business Centre in Masvingo Province, arrested 47 men, believed to be gold panners who were moving around during curfew hours without exemption letters.

It is alleged that the 47 gold panners were on their way to Hwendedzo area where there is a gold rush.
