A police clampdown on motorists and pedestrians violating lockdown measures netted over three thousand offenders, while more than one thousand five hundred others have been arrested for not wearing face masks.
This comes despite government’s call for the general public to stay at home to curb the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
A survey carried out by the ZBC reveals that there are some people who are still showing complacency and disregarding precautionary measures.
However, Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi says they will not rest until such people are brought to book.
“So far we have netted more 3150 as of yesterday for violating the Covid-19 regulations and we have arrested 1604 for not wearing face masks,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi also warned night revelers after more than 400 people were arrested for violating the curfew.
“We want to warn the public to desist from the habit of loitering during the night and so far, we have arrested more than 400 people,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
Government recently tightened the lockdown measures after the country recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases.
