25 cyclists embark on COVID-19 awareness campaign from Bulawayo-Harare

A group of 25 cyclists this Saturday embarked on an 8-day Covid-19 awareness campaign from Bulawayo to Harare in an attempt to highlight the dangers of complacency.
The 8-day campaign will see the cyclists making a stopover in places like Shangani, Gweru, Kwekwe, Chegutu and Chitungwiza where they will draw attention to Covid-19 preventative measures.
We have noticed that covid-19 is still around and people are now relaxed. As cyclists we are just going to spread the message that covid-19 is a reality so people need to continue staying safe. This cycle race is an awareness campaign we need to raise awareness about being health and using masks which is the first line of defence,” they said.
The organiser of the cycling for a cause initiative, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Raj Modi spoke on the reason behind the intiative.
“We are just going to spread the messages to prevent the spread of covid-19. We will hold several discussions with people explaining to them how deadly it is. This cause is mainly about creating more awareness because people are taking it lightly. They are not worried about wearing a mask and social distancing. We just want to educate people and explain to them that the 2nd wave is coming. We can already see it in European countries so prevention is better than cure,” he said.
The cycling for a cause campaign themed #MaskUp was launched by Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga last Friday where he also warned of the possibility of the country being hit by a second wave of Covid-19 if complacency persists.
