THE 18 special security agents arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly taking bribes at a road checkpoint, have been denied bail.
The 18 security members drawn from various government departments who were nabbed by the anti-graft body for allegedly taking bribes from a bus operator, appeared before a Beitbridge Magistrate this Tuesday.
The special security forces from a joint operation involving the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Support Unit and other uniformed forces allegedly committed the crime on Sunday while on an operation against smuggling and illegal cross-border travel.
The eighteen suspects fell into a trap set up by ZACC agents when they allegedly took 2 000 rand from Sable Class Bus.
Beitbridge Resident Magistrate, Takudzwa Gwazemba denied them bail after ruling that the accused are a flight risk after attempting to flee.
Gwazemba postponed the case to the 29th of this month.
