THE Zimbabwe Netball team has been refreshed with new blood after 12 players were selected for the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association (COSANA) tournament slated for Malawi this weekend.
12 new players from the grassroots are set to represent their country for the first time when Zimbabwe takes on hosts Malawi and Namibia at the COSANA tournament this weekend.
It is a dream come true for Chipo Shoko, Nicole Muzanenhamo and Tafadzwa Mawango who are excited at the prospect of playing for the national team.
“I feel great since it’s my first time being in the national team it’s different from what I heard that it’s difficult to be in the senior team but I’m happy I’m here and hope to gain experience from my fellow teammates and going to play internationally,” said Shoko.
“I’m happy I have made it to the senior team and I’m learning new things. As we head to Malawi I hope for a win and it comes through hard work and I hope to play abroad like Fellistars Kwangwa,” said Muzanenhamo.
“The preparations are going well and I expect that we are going to play our best and individually I hope to be noticed by foreign clubs and go to the next level,” said Mawango.
The Gems are training alongside the Under-19 ladies team which will take part in the juniors’ version of the COSANA tournament.
The same delegation will travel to Manchester for friendly matches next month before heading to Cape Town for the World Cup qualifiers in August.
